Cymbal Buying Guide at Cascio Interstate Music

The MEINL Mike Johnston cymbal box set contains a variety of Byzance models that Mike chooses for his standard set up when conducting lessons and performing.

Included in the box are 14" Byzance Extra Dry Medium Hi Hats, 20" Byzance Extra Thin Hammered Crash, 21" Byzance Mike Johnston Signature Transition Ride, plus a FREE 18" Byzance Extra Dry Thin Crash.

These cymbals deliver a musical blend of smooth and dry attack with a growling, earthy wash that is chock-full of character while creating a blend of tones that are suitable for just about any style of playing.

The FREE 18" Byzance Extra Dry Thin Crash is great for adding a contrasting crash sound that works well as an accent cymbal with a quick sustain, and it allows players to dig in for trashy riding effects.

Every Byzance model is hand hammered into shape by cymbal artisans in Turkey, giving each cymbal its own unique and colorful voice. Byzance cymbals from MEINL are sure to stay on your kit as your tastes and styles evolve through time.

I have become a big fan of most of the Meinl Byzance cymbals. I love the dark sound most of them have. This pack is definitely no exception. The Byzance Dry cymbals are very interesting in particular. I don't know of any other cymbal company that makes a series like them. They have the darkness of standard Byzance cymbals, but they are even trashier and quite a bit drier. The pack works very well together, too - I couldn't even say which cymbal is my favorite, but there definitely isn't a weak link in the bunch!
