Cymbal Buying Guide at Cascio Interstate Music

The Zildjian LV468 L80 Low Volume 3-Piece Box Set includes a 14" Hat, a 16" Crash and an 18" Crash/Ride. As the leader in cymbals, Zildjian is always looking for new and innovative ways to bring a better musical experience to the drumming community.  One area where all drummers commonly express dissatisfaction is the use of neoprene pads, mutes, and other dampening devices on cymbals to practice at a reasonable volume. This is true especially for drummers in densely populated cities.  How are you to actually know what you sound like when you can’t feel or hear it?  With drumming being a highly tactile instrument, Zildjian has come up with the solution - the Low Volume Family of cymbals.  This unique new playing experience delivers a quieter sound without losing the authentic feel of a Zildjian cymbal.

Through tireless research and development, a specialized pattern was achieved to deliver the best of both worlds: musical sound and lower volume.  This innovative pattern is combined with a special proprietary alloy with a unique matte finish that enables our Low Volume cymbal to have fewer high frequencies and is up to 80% quieter than a traditional cymbal.

Using a sound level meter, we compared the decibel levels of a traditional Zildjian cymbal versus our Low Volume Series, both played with consistent power.  The results showed that a Low Volume cymbal is up to 80% quieter than a traditional Zildjian cymbal.

  • Indispensable For Teaching Studio!
  • July 21, 2016

I'm a full-time, professional drummer/educator. I had tried these cymbals out at the NAMM show along with Remo SilentStroke heads and was very impressed. I average approximately 72 students per week. My teaching studio is located in my garage. My neighbors are fairly close (I live in Southern California.) These are the PERFECT cymbals for my teaching set. They sound wonderful but 80% less loud! They feel real as well so my students and I can work on touch. I don't know what I would do without mine!

Zildjian has done it!! Finally i can practice without my wife yelling at me that the Drums and Cymbals are too loud!!!. This is an excellent product. I was lucky that they where in stock. The price was unbeatable by other major Music stores. Thanks ZILDJIAN.. You may have saved my marriage.. and a noise complaint from my neighbours.

  • A Zildjian Sound - Low Volume
  • October 15, 2015

Waited months for these to finally ship. I was worried that they might sound like the lower end Zildjians. However these sound exactly like the A Zildjian series without the higher volume. Very impressed that these deliver exactly what they promised. These will be perfect for small gigs and practice situations. I am also anxious to try these for recording purposes. Extremely satisfied with these and Cascio!

  • Not what I expected
  • June 12, 2016

First, let me say that this is not a criticism of Zildjian. I ordered these cymbals because I do a lot of professional live theater and some of the venues require playing at extremely low volumes because cast members are not miked. I thought that these cymbals would help keep volume down, particularly that which comes with cymbal "wash". When I got the cymbals and tried them out I discovered that they do exactly what they're supposed to do-reduce volume. However, for my use they were TOO good at what they do. I just couldn't get enough volume out of them even in low volume situations, and it was not possible to get subtle nuances out of them-they were a one trick pony. I should have checked these out locally before ordering them. Zildjian makes fine products and this is one of them-they just don't work for me. Up until now I've never bought cymbals online-you just can't tell, even with a sound sample, just how they'll sound live. I should have followed my guideline and checked them out first. I wouldn't have bought them had I heard them first. I guess they would work for practice in an apartment or something but that's not something that I need. Live and learn!
