Originally introduced in 1963 as a student drum, the Ludwig Acrolite quickly became the choice of pro players in need of dry, cracking snare tone.

Ludwig is proud to re-introduce Acrolite in its original splendor; with a seamless, beaded, brushed-aluminum shell. Made in Monroe, NC. USA and featuring chrome Classic dual snare lugs, P85 strainer, and Blue/Olive Badge.

To celebrate the reintroduction of the Acrolite in its original splendor; Ludwig introduces the Acrolite Limited. Its seamless, beaded, brushed-aluminum shell produces penetrating, dry snare tone, and is augmented with matching brushed Classic dual snare lugs, P85 strainer, and 2.3mm hoops. Made in Monroe, NC. USA and featuring our iconic Blue/Olive Badge. Limited to 2012/2013 production.

Featuring a powdercoated "Black Galaxy" finish, Classic Lugs, and unique Black/White badge, the "Black-rolite" reflects Ludwig excellence in quality and leaves no question that it is simply a tremendous snare drum at any level.

The fact is the snare drum Hal Blaine played--and damn near every hit record recorded in the U. S. had him drumming on it--was the chrome Ludwig Supra-Phonic. SAME SHELL AS THIS DRUM, but chrome plated and has ten lugs. If you played the two side by side, with the same heads, tuned alike, you'd be hard-pressed to tell them apart. Now Ludwig makes great snares--a million different types. But this drum is the least expensive for the best overall sound, hands down. Buy with confidence (or heck, get the chrome one if you have the money to burn...) :D

Two brothers, William F. and Theo Ludwig, developed a bass drum pedal in 1909 that could play fast, forming "Ludwig and Ludwig."  Ringo Starr’s use of a Ludwig drumset in the 60’s made the brand well- known. Today, the "Most Famous Name On Drums and Percussion" offers a full line of drumsets, concert & marching drums, plus quality hardware.
