This bass receives a high rating in my book for a few reasons. I had considered the bass for several years, and this one was a great deal at the time. I will speak on behalf of the black model, though I believe the color is irrelevant to the performance. I've been learning through a mix of the PC game Rocksmith, and tablature. After initially tuning the bass, I found that it did not fall out of tune easily, except with new strings or after it got very cold. It's winter (2014), and we've had some very cold days, so that's normal. The performance has been great, so far. I've had no buzz from the guitar. The body feels solid, from my perspective, the sound is good, the neck is smooth, and it feels well-balanced. For a "starter", and with price a consideration, I think that this hit the spot nicely. I've recommended this particular model to some friends, who are looking to start, as well.
