This marks the return of Martin's Road Series, which was originally introduced in 2001, designed for working and traveling guitarists on a modest budget, who require their instrument to be durable without giving up the quality of its sound. The top, back and sides are crafted of solid sapele and braced for resonance and projection. The DRS1 neck is built with multilaminate Stratabond? for extra rigidity and durability, and the belly bridge and fingerboard are made of Richlite? that achieves a similar look to ebony. This model comes equipped with the Fishman Sonitone sound reinforcement system.

I was looking for an all solid wood guitar and was surprised to find a Martin in my price range. It also comes with a hard shell case which provides plenty of protection and so nice that it is included in the price. The DRS1 has a very warm tone that I really like but I did have to admit I was torn between this one and the DRS2 which has a spruce top and a brighter tone. I really do not think you could not go wrong with either models for the price.

I ordered this from Cascio a few months ago to replace an old Yamaha that was no longer cutting it. The DRS1 came in a decent case, and was set up and in tune right out of the box. I was looking for a good, durable folk/rock/blues guitar, and this is it. The solid sapele wood produces a rich, warm sound with decent projection. There is also the very-high-end Martin sparkle in there. I've played my share of guitars, and this one is about as good as any acoustic in its price range. Playablity is decent, it comes with a good undersaddle pickup w/ volume and tone. The only drawback is that it lacks the brighter sound of a spruce-top guitar. But if you are looking for a mellower sound, like I was, you will not be disappointed. Workmanship was flawless and I like the materials. Stays in tune. Oh, and sapele smells great too. I tried a DRS2 at a large retailer and noticed only a slight brightening of tone as a result of the spruce top. I prefer the smoky sound of the DRS1 though. I am very satisfied and I feel like I got an excellent value with this purchase.
