The Ludwig Bronze Series is a unique mixture of a metal snare drum with wood shell characteristics. The bronze seamless shell offers the sharp "snap" and projection of a metal drum with the smooth warmth of a wood shell. Choose the smooth shell for ultimate resonance or a hammered shell for a drier more articulate response. Features include standard triple-flanged hoops, Imperial or tube lugs, and Millenium snare strainers.

  • These Ludwigs sound great!

I bought the Ludwig 6.5x14" Hammered Bronze Snare with Imperial Lugs then picked up the 5x14" Hammered Bronze Snare with Tube Lugs a week or two later during the same sale. They're that good. I'm using my LB550KT with Ambassadors and Puresound Brass snares. The stock heads and snares are good; I just have my preferences. These drums sound fabulous. You have to try to get them to make a bad sound. The snare sounds big and warm, though can sound sharp out of the box. You may love that sharpness -- I opted for brass snare wires. Now it is loud and present, yet never painfully sharp. It's deep, rich, and loud. The drum's very sensitive and saturates nicely when you lay into it. The hammering dries it out and gives it less ring. I like to avoid muffling (rings, gels) and this drum not only sounds great without any of that, but you hardly have to work to make it sound great. I generally prefer a deeper snare, so my 6.5" gets more use but the 5" is also great. It feels more responsive than the 6.5" and is a great choice for medium and higher tunings. The 6.5" is also louder. This is quite possibly Ludwig's best Rock/Pop drum. If it's too warm for you, then the Black Beauty may be your ticket. I obviously love mine. The only Con is the price -- but I got mine from Interstate Music at a great price.
