The new Onyx Series, created with the original intent of developing a black alternative to the standard G2 Clear and Coated, prompted the Evans team to experiment with a variety of black films and coatings before settling on a combination that not only results in a new aesthetic but also a new and appealing sound for the Evans line. Two plies of 7.5mm film will deliver enhanced durability while making the drums cut live. A micro-clear coating gives the Onyx heads a matte black appearance, produces more low-end and a punchier attack. They are available in sizes 6" - 20", and the Onyx tom and snare heads are pitch black and rock solid.

I just got this head for my 13x6 snare and it sounds great. The middle is nice and dry, the edges nice and ringy. This head is also super sensitive; you'll hear every ghost note. Can't wait to hear it recorded! Furthermore, after having some rather unpleasant issues with a competitor of Cascio, I was delighted in the fact that the head came properly packaged with ample padding. This seems to be something which other companies will go skimpy on, resulting in damaged stuff arriving at your door... as I had experienced. I think I found a new home to purchase gear :-)
