drummer, Latin percussionist and Educator based in Chicago, Ruben Alvarez
has performed in every major City in the United States, Europe and Canada
including performances at the Chicago Jazz Festival, Viva Chicago, Montreux
Jazz Festival, North Sea International Convention, a featured performer
at the 1994 Percussive Arts Society International
Convention, the 1994 Western Illinois University Jazz Festival and the 1995 Purdue University Jazz Festival. Ruben has appeared with a number of Latin Jazz artists, including trumpeter Arturo Sandoval, flautist David Valentin, British blues-rock legends John Mayall and Dave Mason, Rhythm and Blues divas; Anita Baker and Nell Carter, the Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra and the Chicago Sinfonietta. Ruben can also be seen performing locally with Chicago-based Latin Jazz group Chevere, the Flamenco Rock ensemble Corazon Americano and his own Latin Jazz ensemble SunSounds.
