With the H5, you get 4 channels of simultaneous recording. It can record up to 24-bit 96kHz and 140dB SPL, so you can achieve professional-grade recordings in almost any conditions. The included XY capsule mics sound incredible, and there is a wide variety of interchangeable capsules available from Zoom. It can be used via USB as a computer audio interface. It can also be mounted on a camera for a great sounding and easy to use a/v upgrade. There are built-in compression, low-cut filter, and limiter, as well as a chromatic tuner and metronome.
This device was a little tricky to use the first time, but don't give up. It was well worth the small learning curve once I determined the differences between the different recording modes. 99% of the time I'll just be using this for a stereo location recorder, but once I learned how to switch this into the 4-track mode I decided to write a scratch track for a song with guitar and vocals. Then I was able to easily transfer the tracks to my computer. I'm anxious to try some of the different mic options now for field recording.
