Brass instruments can be loud, but Yamaha devised a way for horn players to practice while listening to hi-fidelity sound that is only audible to the performer. The innovative, award-winning SILENT Brass systems provide musicians with the ultimate practice tool, ideal for use in any silent practice or warm-up situation.

The popular SILENT Brass systems have evolved through innovative advances in sound technology and construction. The systems offer a more comfortable and realistic experience than ever before. The smaller, lightweight design of the new pickup mute offers outstanding sound reduction and provides a natural playing feel, stable pitch and overall retention of the instrument’s basic playing characteristics.

The mute features Brass Resonance Modeling™, a leading-edge technology that delivers superior and realistic brass instrument sound. Another system component, the compact Personal Studio™ unit, includes a headphone jack and allows for easy attachment of an external audio player in order to practice with prerecorded material. SILENT Brass systems can also enhance recordings and provide live sound reinforcement.

“The new Yamaha SILENT Brass will change the way brass players approach playing with a practice mute,” said Jonathan Goldman, product manager, Wind Instruments, Yamaha Corporation of America. “Brass Resonance Modeling provides the most realistic sound ever created by an electronic mute. Combine this new technology with a high quality practice mute that has impeccable intonation and balanced resistance and you get a mobile practice studio perfect for home, backstage, hotel rooms and even airplanes.”

Features:

  • Dramatic sound reduction
  • Natural playing feel
  • Stunning, engaging, satisfying sound

First a quick review of the ordering process. Ordering was very easy and Cody was great in assisting me. I already have placed a second order with this store! I have had this system for several days now and have had a chance to evaluate it. Read the instructions carefully as they do explain the LED and the meaning of it's flashes. The PM7X mute fits my two horns perfectly, I have a Conn 20B and a Couesnon Paris. The STX Personal Studio module uses 2 AA batteries, which I really like. The STX provides power to the PM7X mute through the MUTE IN jack. So be careful to make sure the plugs are in the right jack. The MUTE IN jack takes a small bit of force to seat the plug in properly. Failure to push it in far enough will cause the LED light to flash at you. AS far as the performance goes this mute is the cat's meow so to speak! The sound is really awesome! When using the system several times I've had to removed the earbuds to make sure I wasn't blasting out the neighbors. As with all straight mutes this will sharp your notes. Especially in the lower register. The higher registers where right on, according to my clip on tuner. Most importantly the muted sound wouldn't wake a person sitting 2-3' away from you, it's that quiet. And the sound through the STX module is incredible. My best available times for practice is early morning and late evening, which I haven't been able to utilize for fear of disturbing the neighbors. But with the SB7XC I can practice day or night and know that I can't be overheard. The PM7X mute can be used by itself with out the STX module as a practice mute. But I really like the sound of the STX module. Back pressure is not noticeable to me, I am a beginner and I don't feel any difference to playing with the mute in or out. I most highly recommend this mute if you need a practice mute, especially if you don't want to disturb other people in the house or next door. If you are considering this mute just get it, you won't be disappointed. The mute fits in the bell nicely and can be stored in the case while still in the bell. I looked for a long time and could not beat Cascio Interstate Music for the price!
