  • Amazing how much it does. But hard to use (quickly)

Had the QSC about a month now, still trying to get the hang of it. Mixed review; It's a Positive review in the bang-for-the-buck department, but it's a Negative review in the easy-and-quick-to-use department. My BEST experience with it, was giving it to a professional sound man friend of mine and having him run sound for my 6 piece band using all sixteen inputs and six stage monitor mixes, and also incorporating my new iPad. My soundman was able to build me a "scene" that was tweaked continually all night, so it should make it easier to play the next gig with the same band. It's amazing you can do 16 channels, record them all, and have all the dynamics and EQs built into to a 6 pound box plus an expensive outboard hard drive. However, I am finding this machine EXTREMELY difficult to run by myself, without a sound man there to do it. In my real life at mostly smaller gigs, there's no possibility of doing ANY sound check and doing it on the fly. I can kind of get away with that on an analog board. But on this one? So far, no way. It's very slow to operate- you can't grab what you need. You have to select one channel at a time and then navigate through a bunch of teeny tiny almost unreadable menu screens, do do ANYTHING. If you're on stage and only have twenty seconds to make an adjustment between songs, essentially you're sh!t out of luck. I didn't realize you can only push one fader at a time, too. That really sucks at times... plus only half the channels fit on one screen, and the master volume is on a third screen..... It's too screen heavy for my needs. Keep in mind I'm trying to use every single input and output in a fairly complicated setup. Plus recording every channel (IF ONLY I could make it play those recordings back! That's a whole other can of worms. ) HOWEVER: If you're a singer songwriter duo and are using four inputs at a time, it would really be no problem once you set it up. But for my needs, it's in danger of being relegated to the (quite large) mountain of expensive gear I can only use when I have a pro sound guy there. Which is a very small percentage of the time.
