Modern Recording Techniques by David Huber is the bible for studio and live sound engineers. The book covers everything you could want to know about sound, from the physics of sound to signal paths, designing and building acoustic spaces, microphone selection and use, MIDI and DAW implementation, and much more. It is enlightening to read and a must-have in any studio to grab off the shelf as a reference. This is the textbook for most audio engineering programs as well. Although it is loaded with information, it is fun and easy to read.

In recording, there are no rules; only guidelines. This book details the guidelines. A lot of knowledge will come from trying things on your own. Guess and check, trial and error. This book helps you eliminate most of the guess work and error parts. There's a lot of information. This is basically a text book that students of sound use. Get reading and then start recording!
