Cymbal Buying Guide at Cascio Interstate Music
Meinl announces the expansion of the highly popular Byzance Vintage Series.  Designed and developed in close cooperation with internationally famous drum artist Benny Greb, three new Sand Cymbal Models are now introduced.  "After the huge success of Benny's Sand Rides and Hats, we got together with him and started to develop these new models,"  explains Meinl's product manager Stefan Mueller.  "We had a clear vision of what we wanted to hear in these new cymbals, and I am proud to say that we were able to come up with these new sounds for him which reflect his unique style perfectly."

The new Benny Greb Signature Byzance Vintage Sand Cymbal are hand hammered from B20 bronze alloy and feature a sandblasted surface with a vintage sound and look.  Their sounds complement his Sand Rides and Hats perfectly.

The 18" Sand Thin and Medium Crashes are pitch matched, dark sounding cymbals with a short sustain.  What stands out is their relatively trashy crash sound with a modern white-noise character.

The 20" Sand Crash-Ride is a very unique cymbal; the combination of the unique hammering patterns, the sandblasted surface, and the lightweight creates a roaring sound with lots of low end.  Three rivets round out that special cymbal with an overall dark, earthy and almost mysterious sonic character.

Another new addition is the matched Byzance Vintage Sand Cymbal Set that includes a 14" Sand Hat, 18" Sand Thin Crash and a 20" Sand Ride.  This set is the perfect introduction to the world of Byzance Vintage sounds and is a must have for all fans of Benny Greb's drumming and sound and for fans of musical cymbals in general.

If you want to get the best cymbals at this price range these are the ones. They are not cheap but you get what you pay for. Plenty of video available on these baby's that can explain and describe them better than me. Benny Greb has many of them. First off they are beautiful. That being said the 20 inch Sand Ride is smooth with just the right amount of wash...when you play it your stick just sort of becomes part of it it has a great bell and shimmers just right....really it is a great ride and crash. The 18 inch thin crash is my favorite in the kit....not being too technical... remember when you were in High School and you were banging the big marching cymbals and they cut through everything...this is that sound.... and it is hard to sounds fantastic if you hit it soft or hard. I guess you have to hear it to understand The Sand Hi Hats are the best sounding ones I have ever owned and I have owned a lot over the years, great stick definition and sweet chick, and you can get some amazingly varied sounds out of them the bottom one is at least twice as heavy as the top. Sorry about not being real technical, but as an average Joe who got himself an amazing set of cymbals I am doing my best. You got the them..I don't know if I should play them or just hang them up on the wall and look at them
