ISA 428 MkII puts four Heritage Sound mic preamps, instrument inputs and line ins at your fingertips. In a useful enhancement to the original mic pre design, three additional input impedances have been added to the classic ISA110 setting, allowing it to match any microphone, old or new, and deliver a range of sounds from the character and warmth of a vintage mic to the clear transparency of a modern design.

Features:

  • Four ISA series transformer-based preamps - ISA series mic preamps have been the producers' choice on countless hit records over the last two decades.
  • Eight-channel optional A-D converter - Four additional A-D converter inputs allow eight channels of high quality conversion, with a dynamic range of 122dB and jitter performance below 250 picoseconds.
  • Selectable impedance - Ideal for mic matching or extended microphone creativity. Settings include the 'Vintage ISA110' setting, providing the original Focusrite signature sound.
  • Four front panel instrument inputs - Instant access on the front fascia - no separate DI box required.
  • Dedicated analogue insert points - Switchable insert points are featured on every channel, allowing routing (between preamp and output) through additional external processing.
  • Accurate LED meters for every channel - Clear metering designed to catch even the fastest and most elusive of transients.

I bought this unit along with the Focusrite ISA828 A/D Card to utilize the extra 8 channels of ADAT I/O I had on my Apogee Symphony and couldn't be happier! My main vocal mic for recording has always been the SM7b by Shure but it requires a lot of extra gain to make it worth while. Thats where the ISA fits in perfectly. With most basic preamps as you add gain most of the time your also adding more noise to your recordings as well. This isn't the case with the ISA428 MkII, It stays perfectly clean and apparent as you increase the gain without being a unpleasant or "sterile" sounding clean. I had a session lined up shortly after buying this pre and I told the artist that I wanted to test out some new gear on him seeing that we have worked together for a while and I know how he sounds fairly well now. After a few takes he instantly stops and says "Everything is so much more clear and apparent now. Im going to really have to step up my vocals this time." I think that speaks well enough for this product. A+ on this one Focusrite!
