Cymbal Buying Guide at Cascio Interstate Music
Introduced in 1971, Paiste 2002 was Paiste's top quality cymbal featuring sounds for the new electrified music styles. The original 2002 line became legendary, creating a rich heritage of jazz, rock, fusion and country. In more recent years, the 2002 line has been expanded to accommodate changing music trends. With the introduction of the new Dimensions line, the expansion 2002 cymbals become sonically obsolete and have been discontinued. The original, classic 2002 cymbals however, will remain in Paiste's lineup, representing the classic cymbal sound of the 60's and 70's, of which several current music trends are extensively rooted.

Warm, full, lively, brilliant. Wide range, clean mix. Even, balanced feel. Clear defined ping over full, clear wash. Versatile general purpose ride. Extremely classic rock ride sound.

  • I really like this cymbal!!

Just picked up this 20" 2002 ride today. (Traded in a zildjian 18" crash/ride) The comments about a glassy ping are true. It's a wonderful crystalline ping with a shimmering wash. The wash seems to help fill out my sound between other hits. At first it seemed almost too bright but my ears are only 2 feet away. My wife gave it the acid test while I was playing. She was sitting in the next room (no doors), she described it as mellow with a nice smooth ping. This is like someone in a club/bar 20 some feet away. COOL!!! In the future I just might trade in my other Zildjians. Piaste seems to be the new ruler.

I've had this cymbal for the past 5 years and have experimented it's color in a variety of musical situations - jazz, rock, improvised music, classical percussion ensemble - it's not bad, a little bright for my taste and those situations. It has a nice, bright, articulate ping but the crash can get out of control.
