Hello everyone,

Basically I just wanted to share with you how I tune my pandiero to get the low, bass-filled tone you hear on my records, shows and DVDs.
There are two steps to accomplish this after you take it out of the box. The first is to place the pandiero on a carpeted or toweled surface on the floor and then gently kneel on the head. This will stretch the head and instantly lower the pitch. Next is to just back the tension nuts down to finger tight, then give them 1/4 turn each.  
Now the drum will "boom," and people will dig it!"

There are probably many uses for this drum, but it is geared towards a Cajun sound (a la Stanton Moore) and works wonderfully for that. It basically sounds like a cross between a tom and a tambourine. I was very surprised at how much low-end came out of this drum and I was happy to hear that the jingles aren't too overpowering. It has a good mix of low-end attack and moderate sizzle. I could see this adding an interesting texture to certain Latin grooves, as well.
