I have this exact kit (satin natural finish), and for a smaller, good-looking, easy to transport kit, it is great. The 18" bass drum has a much bigger, fuller sound than you would expect. With your eyes closed, you'd think it was bigger, and recorded, it sounds great. The toms have good tuning ranges, and even the snare is pretty good (might want to consider Black Swamp standard all-steel cable snares to replace the snares....but that's just me being old school). The 5-lug high tom is kind of odd, being 5 instead of 6 lugs, but is not a problem for me. All in all, I love this set for what it is. Good sound, easy to schlep around, and not very expensive at all. If you're buying your kid a first drumset, get this one.
